I've been using AIJ for almost 3 years, but my laptop died, so I'm attempting an installation on another 64-bit Win10 machine. When I download and install AIJ, it opens like regular ImageJ, with blank buttons to the right of the "eye dropper" button. No multi-aperture tools, DP button, etc.
I get a small error window: "Opener File is not in a supported format, a reader plugin is not available, or it was not found. AstroImageJ" Just for fun, I imported an image sequence, and none of the AIJ-specific functions are visible -- functions as ImageJ with no plugins, and no access to the Astronomy tools. Can someone point out the error of my ways? Clear skies, Brad Vietje Newbury, VT |
A bit more info...
I downloaded the 64-bit version with Java7 found here: [ ] AstroImageJ_v3.2.0_20170222_windows_java7_x64.zip 2017-02-22 05:39 54M Thanks! Brad |

If you installed AIJ in one of the usual “program files” folders, they are now locked down my Microsoft. You can change the security setting of the installation folder and all files within and get it to work, but it’s easier to just install AIJ in a folder
that is not protected (i.e. your user account folder, which could include the documents sub-folder).
If that doesn’t resolve the problem, let us know.

OK -- Got it working.
For the greater good, and anyone else who might stumble upon the same situation, here's what worked. I had saved the .zip file and extracted it right to a desktop folder "AstroImageJ" The problem was the little Saturn icon. There are 2, and I created a shortcut using the one that's a 196 KB application. Double-clicking on that icon only opened up ImageJ, with no plugins, and no ability to update etc... What does work is double clicking on the 7,102 KB ij Java executable icon, and then everything worked fine. I'm not sure how to get a desktop icon to work, but that's just window dressing at this point -- the program is intact, and works just fine. I worked with a colleague who had similar problem, but he had not completely extracted all the files, so he was clicking on a 2MB file; once extracted, he could find the 7MB executable file and it seemed to work fine for him. Hi Brad,
I didn't realize you were not clicking the executable. You solution makes sense. Put put an startup icon on the desktop, right click the executable file and create a shortcut. Then drag the shortcut to the desktop. You can also right-click on the the executable and select "pin to taskbar" to place an startup icon on the taskbar.
