observatory listing

stevesmith
We're using AIJ 3.2.41:
How do we get our observatory listed in the DP Coordinate Convertor's Observatory ID drop-down menu?

We use various OSs including Macs, Win7 and Win10....we saw a post that mentioned an observatories.txt file but it's not on any of the computers.

Thank you..

Hi Steve,

I can add it to a daily build and it will be included in the next released version. I'd need the following information:

Observatory Name is a string of characters (spaces are OK)
ObservatoryLatitude is in decimal degrees (positive North)
ObservatoryLongitude is in decimal degrees (positive East)
ObservatoryAltitude is in decimal meters above mean sea level

Here is an example:
Moore Observatory   Brownsboro KY    38.344791    -85.528476    229.0

If you want to use a custom observatory list, there is a post here discussing an installation write protection issue on Windows 10:
http://astroimagej.1065399.n5.nabble.com/Observatories-txt-file-error-td370.html

To start, go to Coordinate Converter->Preferences->"Use custom observatory list"
Close AIJ
Reopen it and you should see the observatories.txt file in the installation directory. Edit it according to the instructions at the top of the list.

NOTE: AIJ must be installed in a directory where the user has write access. In windows 10, the "programs" directories do not allow write access by default. That can be changed if you know how. The easiest way is to install AIJ in your Documents directory.

Hi Steve,

I have added your observatory to the latest daily build (as of 2019.08.17). After you update to the daily build and restart AIJ, the AIJ version number should show 3.3.1.04. This change will be carried forward to all numbered builds.

Hi Karen

Could you add my Observatory info in the next daily build? That would be very helpful to me as well.

The Maury Lewin Astronomical Observatory Glendora, CA 34.142078, -117.872124 225

Thank you!

Hi Pablo,

Sure thing. It's there now in the latest daily build. It should show 3.3.1.05 or later after you update. Let me know if you see a problem.
