User guide updated, new section 10: Step-by-Step Guide to Differential Photometry in AIJ

This post was updated on .
NOTE: the new expanded edition of the AIJ paper is now available on arXiv here:

https://arxiv.org/abs/1701.04817

The user guide has been updated (but is still not complete). There have been minor updates and user interface image updates throughout, but the main addition is Section 10 which provides step-by-step instructions on how to perform differential photometry on a stack of images and plot light curves from the resulting measurements table. The updated guide is available here:

http://www.astro.louisville.edu/software/astroimagej/guide/AstroImageJ_User_Guide_2.1.4.pdf

The images sequence used in the Section 10 tutorial are available here:

http://www.astro.louisville.edu/software/astroimagej/examples/

download the file: WASP-12b_example_images.zip

Unzip the file into the individual images and load them into AIJ. The zip file is large (4.5GB) and may take a long time to download depending on your internet connection. If you already have an image sequence on hand, you may prefer to use it as you follow along the tutorial.

Section 10.2.1.9 of the user guide is about loading the transit_standard.plotcfg file, but the example data set on WASP-12b does not contain one. Is there another link where it can be downloaded from.

Good point. I have added the plotcfg file to the examples data page at
the AIJ website:

The link in the User Guide may be old. Have you tried the link on the
AstroImageJ website? The direct link to the file is:

http://www.astro.louisville.edu/software/astroimagej/examples/standard_transit.plotcfg

Or that file, along with two other files can be downloaded from this
link to the folder containing them:

http://www.astro.louisville.edu/software/astroimagej/examples/

Let me know if that solves your problem.

The Link you posted is not a downloadable link. It just opens in a separate tab in the internet explorer.

Which link are you referring to? I just tried them all and they are
working for me (Windows 10, google chrome).

If the link is not opening in your browser, you can always copy it from
the forum and paste it into your browser address bar.

The Standard transit plot isn't downloadable it just opens in a new tab in server. Is this file in either of the 4G files?

It is not in the 4gig file. Try right clicking on the link and then select download the file. It is just a plain text file, so alternatively you can copy the text from the webpage and paste it in a text file on your computer.
