Urgent: Upgrade to AIJ version 6 now. AIJ versions 5.x are becoming obsolete on April 14th, 2026.

Hi AIJ Users,

The AIJ website at the University of Louisville (UofL) will be taken out of service by April 14, 2026. Version 5 updates require the UofL website to provide AIJ in-app updates. If you have not done so already, we urge you to update to AIJ version 6 immediately, either through the in-app update service under AIJ_Toolbar > Help > Update AstroImageJ, or by downloading and installing a version 6 new installation package from the new AIJ website hosted at https://astroimagej.com. The in-app update path is preferred because it will preserve any of your custom memory and custom observatory settings when moving from v5 to v6. The files containing that information have now been moved out of the application folder to allow app signing for app security purposes. Your other AIJ settings (preferences) will be maintained using either upgrade path.

If you need to set up (or re-set up) custom observatories in AIJ version 6, that can now be done within AIJ's Coordinator Converter panel Preferences menu.

AIJ now uses up to 75% of your physical system memory without any special set-up required. If you want to increase or decrease the amount of maximum memory available to AIJ, go to AIJ_Toolbar > Edit > Options > Memory & Threads.

If you are reading this post after the UofL AstroImageJ website has been taken offline (i.e. your in-app updates are no longer working or you can no longer reach the UofL website), you will need to upgrade to AIJ v6 using a new installation package as described above. There are certain Linux systems that block the v5 to v6 in-app update path. If you find that you are still running the same version after the in-app v5 to v6 update process, you will also need to download and install a new v6 AIJ installation package.

If you find problems or have questions, please post them on the new AIJ User Forum at GitHub Discussions, or if you just cannot sign up for a free GitHub account at this time, then we will still monitor this user forum until further notice.
