Java Exception on starting DataProcessor

mjperson
Hi folks,

Anyone have an idea why I always get a Java exception:

java.lang.NullPointerException
        at Data_Processor.countValidFiles(Data_Processor.java:5878)
        at Data_Processor.run(Data_Processor.java:2813)
      etc.

when I launch the DataProcessor?  It pops up the Exception window just on clicking the DP button.  The DP window launches but doesn't work.

I've tried it under several versions of AIJ, (using "Update AIJ" to switch versions) and it is always happening.  It only happens on one of my three machines running AIJ, but always happens on that one rendering the DP unusable on that machine.  (Sadly, it's my best machine.) Other things like multi-ap photometry and plotting work fine on that machine.

Current is AIJ version 3.3.1, and MacOSX 10.15.2.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Did this problem get resolved? Are all machines you are describing running MacOSX 10.15.2?

Hi Mike,

I am getting the same error and I do not get AIJ to work. Did you find any solution for this?

Thanks!

Hi Estella,

It’s been a while since I’ve had that error.  I think it got repaired in some of the intervening updates.  I’d suggest starting over with a new install on a recent OS.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Hi Estela,

If you are still having trouble, first try updating to the latest AIJ daily build. If you are using a Mac, make sure you are running the latest version 4.0.0.x. If running 3.x, you'll need to do a fresh install of the mac java 8 version from https://www.astro.louisville.edu/software/astroimagej/installation_packages) following these instructions. If that still does not fix your problem, go to Multi-Aperture > File > "Restore all default AIJ preferences" and follow the instruction to do so. If one of these solutions works, please let us know which fixed the problem.

If not of the above fix the problem, then report back your computing platform (Windows, Mac or Linux) and OS version, and your AIJ version (go to AIJ_Toolbar > Help > About AstroImageJ). Also, click on the lower half of the AIJ Toolbar and send a screen grab that includes the information in the lower portion of the toolbar.
