Folding transit curves

Laura Watson
Hello,

Is there a way to fold multiple curves into one in AstroImageJ by setting the period manually? And can AstroImageJ determine which period gives the best folded curve/produce periodograms?

Thanks!
Laura

Hi Laura,

You can fold a light curve on a fixed ephemeris, but AIJ does not current solve for the best fit ephemeris or produce periodograms. To fold on a fixed ephemeris, use:
Multi-plot_Main->X-axis->"Set epoch and period..." to set those parameters.

Then select:
Multi-plot_Main->X-axis->"Show X-axis as days since Tc"

Note: there are other X-axis phasing options which work for display, but if you are fitting the transit, you will need to select the "days" since Tc option.

Great, thanks Karen! Are there plans to include a feature to solve for period/produce periodograms in the future?

Hi Laura,

Unfortunately there are no immediate plans to solve for period. Periodograms can probably be produced already using the underlying ImageJ tools and/or available plugings, but I am not well versed enough in that area to point you to any specific resources. Nevertheless, I've added you suggestions to the AIJ requested features list.

Of course VARTOOLS (https://www.astro.princeton.edu/~jhartman/vartools.html) are the standard tools for searches for periodic events in light curves, but the tools can take some time learn to use.
