"File is not in a supported format"

Hi Guys,

I've tried to do an "uninstall" of AstroimageJ which more or less consisted of deleting everything and unpacking the archive into the same folder again, which has broken all of the AstroimageJ plugins completely. I'm getting this error on startup -

"File is not in a supported format, a reader plugin is not available, or it was not found.
D:\Program Files\AstroimageJ\Files\AstroimageJ

Note I have write access to everything on D:
There is no Files directory under AstroimageJ

I'm confused about exactly the sequence of events and the problem you are having. You should be able to completely remove the AstroImageJ directory, and then do a fresh install from the AIJ website. Will that work?

If not, what OS are your running? Any other details you can provide?

Sequence of events:

1. Decide to reinstall AstroimageJ
2. Delete everything in the AstroimageJ folder - happens to be in D:/Program files (which means my platform is Windows - Specifically Windows 10 Anniversary)
3. Redownload AstroimageJ zip file
4. Unzip
5. Run AstroimageJ
6. Autoconfig runs
5. Rerun AstroimageJ and receive above error

Attempting to open files using the windows open dialog has highlighted the fact that the file window remains at the same location as the last install. I'm wondering if there are any other config files hidden somewhere else

Do you get that message as soon as you double-click the AstroImageJ.exe file to open AIJ, or only after you try to open an image using the file open dialog? If when double-clicking AstroImageJ.exe, I recommend installing AIJ in your Documents folder and trying again. If it works, then there is still a problem with write access to the folder on the D: drive. You could either keep AIJ installed in the Documents directory, or try to further explore read/write permissions on the AstroImageJ folder and all subfolders.

If the error occurs when you are trying to open an image, there is indeed a file that contains all of the previously used settings at Users/<username>/.astroimagej/AIJ_Prefs.txt. Try deleting that file to see if it resolves your problem. You will need to set windows explorer to show hidden files to see the .astroimagej directory.

I get that message as soon as I open AIJ. I am unable to open images at all after this message is dismissed .

I've removed the .astroimagej directory completely and tried reunzipping. After moving the AstroimageJ to the root of C:\ it seems that the problem is solved.

It seems that other drives (regardless of write access) are not supported by AstroimageJ
