Hi all, a friend of mine, Roberto Zambelli, who has not registered to this forum, asked to me for help with this strange problem. I was not able to help him and therefore I attach here his message hoping someone could help him. Riccardo --- Hi all, I am writing to ask for your help since AIJ abruptly started behaving "odd" after a long period of regular service in my Windows10 pc desktop with KELT and TESS transits. Into detail, I import the sequence from File > Import
>Image Sequence ... and get the following error: Unable to open FITS file C:\Users\Roberto\Desktop\TIC\TIC 277447970.01 (TOI 1361.01) 18.11.2020\raw\Autosave Image -0001.fit: Error skipping padding after image In the end, AIJ is able to import part of the sequence but when I click START in the CCD Data Processor window, I get a pop up showing the following error Unable to open FITS file C:/Users/Roberto/Desktop/TIC 277447970.01 raw/mbias.fits: IO error:java.io:IOException:invalid FITS Header Finally, I perform multi-aperture photometry and the stars in
the images in the display "move" back and forth horizzontally
while passing from an image to the next one. I have firstly checked all the AIJ settings and they look normal. I have processed the same images with a different Windows10 pc and AIJ performed very well giving in the end a fine fit model. I have checked the AIJ settings of the two pc and they look the same. I have shared the same images with a friend of mine Riccardo Papini who is reading this forum too. He was able to process all the images and do photometry without getting any error. He runs AIJ under Linux OS Ubuntu 20.04. I have even uninstalled AIJ and installed it again with a new download file, but got the same results. By now, I ran out of ideas. Your help will be greatly
appreciated. Thank you, Roberto |

Hi Riccardo and Roberto,
Let's try to solve the file open error first, and then see what's left once that issue is resolved. Are the AIJ versions the same on all computers? If not, update to the latest daily build. If so, what version? I'm not sure, but the periods in the path name could be somehow tripping up AIJ. Is the path similar on all computers? I'd try replacing the periods in the path with a dash and try again (leave the period in ".fit" of course). I've heard some folks say that opening files from USB drives can cause a problem. I use USB drives with AIJ frequently, but haven't seen the problem. If the data are on a USB drive (I expect not given the C:/ path), then copy the files to an internal hard drive and try again. If none of the above works, then maybe try resetting the preferences to default values. Note, this will require all AIJ settings to be set up again. To reset to defaults go to Multi-plot_Main > File > "Restore all default AIJ Preferences" and follow the directions. Most user settings can be restored by loading a previously saved ".plotcfg" file. However, the DP settings and the CCD settings (under aperture settings) will need to be reset manually. Let me know if any of the above suggestions fixes the problem, and I could dig deeper and what could have instigated the problem. Roberto, follow this simple step if you like to join the AIJ forum: http://astroimagej.1065399.n5.nabble.com/TO-POST-IN-THE-FORUM-please-register-as-a-user-and-send-email-due-to-SPAM-td950.html Karen On 11/28/2020 5:26 PM, Riccardo Papini

Hi Karen, thank you for your kind and quick reply. Roberto joined the forumĀ few minutes ago and you should receive his application soon. The installed versions are all the same 3.4.0.23. The files are stored in the hard disk in each PC. However the removal of the periods from the path, as you suggested, has fixed the problem. It has been a surprise since AIJ worked fine with the same set of images, on the following PC: PC desktop Windows XP Pro (Roberto) PC notebook Windows 10 (Roberto) PC notebook Linux Ubuntu 20.04 (mine) It didn't worked only on the observatory PC desktop with Windows
10 too. Linux generally doesn't bother of periods in the name, but
XP generally should. Thank you very much again for your precious help. Riccardo & Roberto
