AIJ not opening on MacOS 14.7.1

Hello, I wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same problem I'm having running AIJ on a MacBook.

After installing AIJ onto my MacBook Pro (with chip M3 Max, running Sonoma 14.7.1) I find that it is unable to open after using it one or two times. Upon closing AIJ after a successful session and then double clicking on the icon to reopen AIJ I get a pop-up message "The application “AstroImageJ” can’t be opened."

After deleting the AIJ installation and reinstalling, I find that the error recurs. I have deleted and reinstalled AIJ several times over the last few weeks and the same problem keeps on occurring.

Hi Richard, which installation package are you installing from the AIJ Installation packages website? We offer both an x86 and arm version for Mac. If you have only tried one of them, please try the other and let us know if you get the same or different result. We expect that the "arm" version is what you'd need for the M3 chip, but the x86 should also work (I think). We have less testing experience on the arm version, so your feedback here would be helpful in potentially debugging the problem.

Hi Richard,

This problem should be fixed after installing the appropriate v5.4.1.00 installation package for your hardware from the UofL website:
https://www.astro.louisville.edu/software/astroimagej/installation_packages

Note: Using the update feature within AIJ will not resolve the problem. You must perform a new installation using the appropriate dmg file from the install package website. After the new install is performed, you can again use the update feature for future updates.

Please let us know whether this fixes the problem on your computers.

Hi Karen,

many apologies for the radio silence. I just want to confirm the new version seems to be stable - certainly I've been able to open and close AIJ repeatedly without running into the problem I was having before.
